Trombini-supported project provides livelihood through recycling

The most recent data released by the National Movement of Recyclable Waste Collectors (MNCR) estimates that there are more than 800,000 people working in waste collection throughout Brazil. This is extremely important work that allows for the correct disposal of collected materials, effectively contributing to the reverse logistics process, in addition to enabling a significant portion of the Brazilian population to guarantee their livelihood and that of their families.

It is part of Trombini’s management policy to promote social responsibility actions in the communities where it operates and, being essentially a recycling company, it supports projects that foster sustainability and social and economic development. The company has three paper recycling plants in the South region, where 27 thousand tons of paper scraps and corrugated cardboard are recycled every month.

One of the projects encouraged by Trombini is Paz e Bem recycling cooperative, located in Caxias do Sul (RS).  Around 30% of the city’s selective collection is delivered to the cooperative through the Caxias do Sul Development Company (Codeca), part of the City Hall, enabling the 53 cooperative members to sort and sell the recyclables.“We found out about the Paz e Bem Cooperative through Tramontina, which encouraged us to learn about the project. During the visit, it became clear to us that the cooperative’s recycling efforts not only support multiple families and generate income but also aim to significantly improve the quality of life for its members. Inspired by this initiative, we decided to contribute to the cooperative’s social projects as well,” comments Regis Moterle, Raw Material Acquisition Coordinator at Trombini.

Ecotendas

Among the actions supported by the company are Eco-tents, collection points for recyclables, such as paper, plastic, glass and medicine blisters. In total, there will be 5 Eco-tents sponsored by Trombini, which will be located in the Andreazza supermarket chain, in Caxias do Sul.

In addition, empty bags were donated for use in the selection and collection process at the Eco-tents.

Mochila Solidária

In addition to encouraging the work of recyclable material collectors, Trombini also invests in the education of their children, participating in the Solidarity Backpack Project, which consists of collecting new and used school materials to assemble kits.

The company collaborated in the acquisition of these materials, which were distributed to 34 students, including children and teenagers, enrolled in elementary and high school.

The Paz e Bem Cooperative has been working for over ten years to benefit its members and also to raise awareness about the correct disposal of waste. For Tiago Pavelski, president of the institution, “the impact the cooperative has on society is in giving visibility and dignity to individuals who are often overlooked yet perform essential and extraordinary work! They are true environmental agents, and as a result, they also provide for their families.”Click here and find out more about the Paz e Bem Cooperative.
